Table Tales
I am a bit of a fan of a nicely dressed table.
Whether it be dinner with friends, a child’s birthday or just a casual family dinner sometimes putting that extra bit of effort in shows that you love the people you’re dining with.
“Just do it, don’t over think it,” professional table stylist Sharon Pepper says. “Make it feel unique to you and your tastes.”
Even if you are a fan of all things white and grey, just adding a bit of visual interest or colour with a paper napkin can lift the everyday to the something a little more.
Here are Sharon and I’s top 5 tips for setting a table:
I am a bit obsessed with beautiful paper napkins and have a draw full of various designs and colours, I often match the colour of my napkins with other items on the table e.g. flowers, glasses, bowls etc. But I also like a eclectic mix of patterns too.
If you’re having a big family or friends gathering, make sure there is enough space on the table for all of the bowls, glasses and plates of food;
Don’t make your table centrepieces too high, as you need to be able to see and easily converse with the people on the other side of the table;
The more the merrier - it is often more fun to squeeze as many people as you can around the table. Any chair you can find in the house is fine too;
If it is a more casual affair and you are serving finger foods, make sure there is a ready supply of extra paper napkins close by.
